I taught another class yesterday. To TWO PEOPLE! Woohoo. The teaching space wasn’t all that big so I had to move them around more than I would have liked. Otherwise there would have been some rather unfortunate foot/armpit sniffing or other even more embarrassing positions.Thankfully the two students are old friends so the coziness of the class was less of an issue than it would have been if they were strangers. Something for me to think about when sequencing classes in the future though. If it is crowded what do I do? How do I make the sequence work without having to move mats all over the place. And will I have to take some postures out if it is crowded? Ahhhhh yes.. memories come flooding back. Standing wide legged forwards bends can be quite awkward if the mats are too close together. These are the times you PRAY no one has eaten beans for lunch.
When I teach there are three things that I struggle with the most:
- Getting the class to fall within the time allotted (my 45 minute sequence becomes an hour long class)
- Getting enough breath while talking and doing postures at the same time. (I notice I rush words or breathing because I am having a hard time finding my breath)
- Balancing an appropriate amount of talking with silence (I get nervous teaching and then I talk.. and talk.. and talk…)
